Automotive Hall of Fame

The Automotive Hall of Fame is an American museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating outstanding automotive achievement. Since its founding in 1939, the Automotive Hall of Fame has honored nearly 800 automotive industry greats from around the world.
==History==
The Automotive Hall of Fame was originally founded in New York City by a group called the "Automotive Old Timers." Its mission was to perpetuate the memories of early automotive pioneers and to honor people from all parts of the auto industry worldwide.
The organization moved to Washington, D.C. in 1960, sharing space in the National Automobile Dealers Association building. In 1971, it moved to Midland, Michigan where it got its first permanent home at Northwood University.
In 1997, it moved to its present home, closer to Detroit, Michigan, the automotive capital of the United States, in the metro Detroit suburb of Dearborn, Michigan, adjacent to The Henry Ford museum. It is within the MotorCities National Heritage Area, an affiliate of the U.S. National Park Service dedicated to preserving and promoting the automotive and labor history of Michigan.
The Hall is housed in a 25,000-square-foot building, complete with exhibits on automotive history, a small theater and an enclosed atrium used for public events, meetings and special exhibits.
True to its mission, the Hall honors members of the automotive industry each year. More than 250 members have been inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame so far. These inductees include the founders of Benz, Bosch, Bugatti, Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroen, Cord, Daimler, Dodge, Duesenberg, Durant, Duryea, Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Maybach, Olds, Peugeot, Porsche, Renault and Toyota among others.
To be eligible for induction, a person "must have significantly impacted the development of the automobile or the motor vehicle industry" in order to be honored.〔
Along with the Hall of Fame induction awards, the Hall also honors individuals with significant awards each year. These include:
* Distinguished Service Citation, initiated in 1940 to honor people from the worldwide automotive industry,
* Industry Leader of the Year, awarded to one outstanding leader each year,
* Young Leadership & Excellence award, which recognizes up-and-coming future leaders of the industry.
The Hall celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2014. Guests included 2010-11 back to back Mercedes Benz "Best of the Best" General Sales Manager John Karoumi as guest speaker.
